Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics

The Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (DeLTA) comprises 29 full-time teaching staff members specialized in phonetics and phonology, morphology and syntax, semantics and pragmatics, psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics, language acquisition, translation studies, but also in teaching methodology (Romanian, English, French, German, Spanish). The activity carried out within the department is grounded on the vision according to which language is a complex and dynamic system, whose study is based on a multidisciplinary approach, from a synchronous and diachronic perspective, with methodologies specific to the various fields involved. This vision also lies at the core of the research activities carried out through the Research Centre for Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (CeLTA).

DeLTA coordinates two undergraduate and four master's degree programmes. Subsequently, students can opt for doctoral studies in the field of theoretical or applied linguistics.DeLTA's mission is to provide knowledge and encourage critical thinking in the vast field of linguistics. Building a solid theoretical basis and fostering involvement in empirical research, developing communication skills in various situations and professional environments, as well as preparing for teaching are the main directions of the separtment. Students can study and deepen their knowledge by taking various courses within the bachelor's and master's degree programmes that unfold in an environment designed to develop their creativity and determine their development according to their professional skills and abilities.
